PLA FILAMENT

PLA Filament stands for PolyLactic Acid and it is the 'go to' 3D filament for most makers. PLA is an eco-friendly biodegradable material made from corn starch. Super easy to print with because it's one of the lowest printing heat setting of any 3D printer material and generally doesn't warp. You’ll find PLA is also non-toxic and low odour when printing. Using High quality pla filament for 3D printers will change your life and reduce many of the problems associated to problem prints. This reduces face palms and minimises wastage. Consistent filament diameter and low moisture content are two of the key factors with good quality filament. If the filament diameter fluctuates then that can lead to clogging and poor layer and print quality.
Correct and consistent diameter filament reduces your extruder from clogging. Our PLA is guaranteed to a consistent diameter of 1.75mm with a tolerance of ±0.03mm!
Print Solid PLA 3D Printing Filament is the most economical and universal 3D printing material. It fits very well with all kinds of FDM 3D printers, and is especially suited for larger size models without worrying about warping issues. The optimal PLA K5 has better mechanical performance through improved impact strength and high fluidity which enables you to print in wider temperature and speed ranges.
We can supply PLA Filament Australia wide and have good levels of stock. We offer the option of reduced packaging which has received great feedback from commercial and educational customers. Have confidence using high performance PLA filament for 3d printing.
PLA is one the most popular plastics to use due to its low print temperature and cheap price. PLA is super easy to print as it doesn't tend to shrink or warp like other filament. Soon we'll be stocking glow in the dark PLA Filament!

What Is PLA Filament Good For?
Is a popular material for 3D printing and is suitable for many applications.

Prototyping: An excellent material for creating prototypes, as it is easy to print with and produces high-quality, accurate prints.
Artistic and creative projects: Comes in a wide range of colors and finishes, making it a great choice for creating artistic and creative projects such as sculptures, figurines, and other decorative items.
Education and learning: Is often used in educational settings as it is easy to work with and provides a hands-on learning experience for students.
Cosplay and costumes: Can be used to create intricate and detailed cosplay and costume pieces such as armor, props, and accessories.

PLA filament is a versatile and widely used material for 3D printing, and its applications are only limited by one's imagination and creativity. Whether you're a hobbyist, artist, educator, or professional, PLA filament can provide an excellent solution for your 3D printing needs.
What is the strongest PLA Filament?
PLA (polylactic acid) filaments are typically not graded by strength, as their strength can vary based on a variety of factors including the manufacturing process, additives, and printing parameters.

However, some PLA filaments may be marketed as "high-strength" or "engineering-grade" PLA, which typically have additives or modifications to improve their strength and other mechanical properties.

Some examples of high-strength PLA filaments include:

• Filament which is reinforced with polymer fibers to improve its strength and durability.
• PLA infused with carbon fiber, which improves its stiffness and strength.
• Heat Treated PLA where the filament has been treated with heat to improve its heat resistance and strength.

It's important to note that even with these high-strength filaments, the strength of a printed part can also depend on the design, printing parameters (such as layer height and infill density), and post-processing techniques.
Is PLA Filament Food Safe?
PLA (polylactic acid) filament is generally considered food safe. PLA is made from natural and renewable resources such as corn starch, sugarcane, or cassava roots, and is biodegradable and compostable.

However, it's important to note that not all PLA filaments may be considered food safe, as some may contain additives or dyes that are not food safe. Additionally, the printing process itself can introduce contaminants or toxins into the filament, which could make it unsafe for use with food.

If you want to use PLA filament for food-related applications, it's recommended to use a filament that is specifically labeled as food safe and to ensure that your printing environment and process are clean and free from contaminants. It's also important to note that PLA is not heat resistant and may not be suitable for hot food or beverages.

PLEASE NOTE: Print Solid does not claim for any of it's Filament to be Food Safe or Food Grade.

Printing Tips For PLA Filament

1. Bed Leveling: Ensure that the printer bed is leveled properly. An uneven bed can lead to adhesion problems and affect the print quality.

2. Print Bed Surface: PLA filament like all other filaments requires a clean surface with good adhesion. Clean the printer bed between prints with isopropyl.

3. Print Bed Temperature: PLA filament can be printed on a cold bed, but it is recommended to heat the bed to around 50-60°C. This will improve adhesion and prevent warping.

4. Nozzle Temperature: The ideal temperature for printing PLA filament is between 190°C and 220°C. Start at the lower end and gradually increase the temperature to find the ideal setting for your printer and filament.

5. Print Speed: PLA filament can be printed at relatively high speeds, but it's important to avoid going too fast, especially for intricate designs. A good starting point is around 50 mm/s.

6. Cooling: PLA filament needs to be cooled quickly to ensure it solidifies properly. Ensure that the cooling fan is on and set to around 50-100% depending on the print design.

7. Retraction: PLA filament can be prone to stringing. Not as much as PETG but PLA as well as ABS can show stringing. This can be fixed by printing with the right nozzle temperature, using dry filament and having the correct retraction settings. Start with a retraction distance of around 1-2 mm and gradually increase if necessary.

8. Filament Quality: High-quality PLA filament is important for successful prints. Ensure that the filament is stored properly and kept dry to prevent moisture absorption.

9. Experiment: Every printer and filament brand can be a little different, so it's important to experiment and find the best settings for your specific setup. Keep notes on what works and what doesn't work to help you refine your settings over time.

PLA Filament Pros

• Is a biodegradable and eco-friendly material made from renewable resources such as corn starch, sugarcane, and potato starch.
• Is easy to print with and is suitable for beginners and experienced users alike.
• Has a low melting point, which means it can be printed at lower temperatures than other materials, reducing the risk of warping and nozzle clogging.
• Produces less fumes and odors when printing compared to other materials, making it a safer option for use in homes and offices.
• Comes in a wide range of colors and finishes, including transparent, translucent, and metallic.Great for prototyping

PLA Filament Cons

• Can be brittle and prone to breaking under stress, especially when printed with thin walls or sharp angles.
• Is not as strong or durable as other materials such as ABS or nylon, making it unsuitable for some applications that require high strength and impact resistance.
• Is sensitive to heat and moisture, which can cause it to degrade over time, especially when exposed to high temperatures or humidity.
• Has a lower melting point than some other materials, which can limit its use in high-temperature applications such as automotive or aerospace parts.
